New BT payment service makes online sales easier
September 10, 2002 A new service launched by BT yesterday BT click&buy should make it simpler for readers to pay for content online. The pay-as-you-go scheme allows publishers to charge readers on a per article basis, and the micropayments are deducted from a reader's BT click&buy account. This is the first time that a micropayment scheme, second nature to web users in the U.S. and Germany, will be available to British consumers and publishers.
Two of the 24 sellers who have signed up so far are print magazines selling content: Internet magazine charges readers 50p per archived article; the Online Recruitment Magazine charges readers 6 pounds to download its archived issues in pdf format for 30 days.
